Sister Pat Johannsen SCL (Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth,Kansas, USA).
I joined Solidarity in April 2011. I have a background in elementary education with a concentration in reading. I taught grades one and three for thirteen years. I also have many hours in science–thus I teach science at the teacher training in Yambio. I have worked in maternity homes for unwed women in the United States. I spent nine years working with abused and neglected children in a treatment center in Denver, Colorado. I also worked for Catholic Charities doing emergency assistance and homeless case management. Before I came to South Sudan I worked for nine years in the juvenile court system in the United States. I worked with first time offenders in a diversion program. Much of this was teaching classes in decision making. I feel that all my previous works have prepared me for working in South Sudan despite the fact that I have never ministered outside the country.
