SUDAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS' CONFERENCE – SOUTH SUDAN


STATEMENT ADDRESSED TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH SUDAN

Take every care to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that
binds you together  (Ephesians 4:3)

We, the Catholic bishops of the Republic of South Sudan, meeting in
Plenary Session in Juba from 6th - 8th September 2011, wish to express
our joy and thanksgiving to God for the peaceful birth of our new
nation on 9th July 2011.

The challenge for all of us now is nation-building, emphasising unity
and integration.

HIV/AIDS & Capacitar Workshop

Sister Joana gave a two-day workshop in Riimenze on August 24th and 25th to 30 single mothers and women on HIV/AIDS and Capacitar (a trauma healing workshop incorporating movements of the body).  Below, Sr. Joana recounts the workshop and the impact that it had on the women of Riimenze:


We began with an opening prayer by Deacon Matthew.  We invited schoolgirls for a three-hour workshop on HIV/AIDS.  Makerena Joicy and I talked about HIV/AIDS basic information and how to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS through the family. The women were aware of HIV and were concerned about the status of their husbands because the men do not want to be tested.

God of Mercies, we thank you for your great love for us.

We ask you to guide our leaders in the process of nation building.

Grant them wisdom, compassion and fortitude.

Loving God, give us courage

to reject ethnic resentment as well as ethnic conflicts.
